HEKATE’S RETREAT DEVELOPMENT
We gratefully acknowledge that we live, work and adventure on the traditional and unceded territory of the Haida Nation.
Hekates Retreat is envisioned to rejuvenate an existing community facility into a modern tourism destination that provides local employment, community spaces, recreation, and accommodation opportunities to display the natural beauty of Sandspit. The project team is building upon on-going and completed work in locations such as Port Renfrew, Tofino, and Port Browning with comparable sites located in close proximity to existing amenities – such as restaurants and small shops – while still offering a remote wilderness experience that is highly coveted in the British Columbia tourism market. The Project will be spread out over two phases as follows:
Phase 1, 2023 (existing infrastructure)
Refresh existing kitchen facilities
Four (4) Fairway Cabins
Five (5) RV stalls
Phase 2, 2024 (Pending Zoning Approval)
RV Park extended with five (5) additional stalls
Addition of four (4) Fairway Cabins

A Letter from our owner, Andrew Purdey
Dear Haida Gwaii Residents,
I want to thank you all for taking the time to review our plans for the re-development of the Willows Property. I respect that change needs to be clearly communicated so all residents fully understand the impacts of what is being proposed. My team and I are committed to do all we can to ensure we provide the best details we have at this stage of the development for constructive comments and collaboration where possible.
The heart of this development is a personal passion to create a sustainable business that respects the community and the lands it is built upon. We are committed to develop a place of well being, that not only serves the community of today, but with a generational vision that connects with the super natural beauty and historic culture of Haida Gwaii.
To conclude, I have personally worked and adventured on the islands over the past 30 years as a visitor. I consider Haida Gwaii to be special in every way. Our team plans to do our best to be positive and respectful contributors to its thriving future. We are asking for comments and support of our plan.
Thank you for your time,
Andrew Purdey
